Elmore's Fire Tower Pizza: A Community Collaboration

Six months ago, Elmore residents John and Kristen Howell struck up a partnership with The Elmore Store owners Warren and Kathy Miller. They started selling pizza made from local ingredients out of the cramped general store.

Each week, Fire Tower Pizza offers a chef's special, created by John Howell, and a farm special, based upon the harvest from Jupiter Farm, across the road.

Four nights a week they offer gourmet pizza with dough made down the road by Elmore Mountain Bread and toppings from Jupiter Farm, just across the street from the store. And now they're hoping to get more community members involved in the business.

The Elmore Store sits beside Lake Elmore, in the shadow of Elmore Mountain and its landmark fire tower. John Howell, a trained chef,  says they’d like to take advantage of the location and seasonal population.

"We have ideas about possibly a deck and outside eating area," says John Howell.  "And I think that’s going to be a big part of our business, especially during foliage and during summer."

To expand, Fire Tower Pizza is looking to get more of the community involved. This week they’ve sent out a letter asking locals to invest their time, talent or money to help build the lakeside deck by next summer.
