Vermont State Police are investigating an officer-involved shooting in Windsor.

Jose Burgos, 34, of White River Junction was shot by a Windsor police officer Sunday afternoon.

A press release says that Windsor police officers encountered a vehicle in a parking area in Windsor. During the encounter Burgos, the driver of the vehicle, was shot. After the shooting, Burgos allegedly fled in the car. He was pursued by two Windsor police cruisers and the Weathersfield Police Department. The car was stopped in Claremont, N.H. and Burgos was taken to the hospital with non-life threatening injuries. He had an active arrest warrant for escape, for  failure to appear for work crew.

A passenger in the vehicle, Brittany Smith, had two active arrest warrants in New Hampshire for sale of heroin and identity fraud. She was taken into custody.

Police have not yet identified the officers involved, but they have been placed on leave, according to department protocol. No law enforcement officers were injured in the incident. An investigation by the Vermont State Police is underway, in cooperation with the Windsor County state's attorney and the attorney general's office.
