Dan Feliciano, the Libertarian candidate for governor who’s using an anti-single-payer message to draw conservative votes, will hit the television airwaves for the first time this election cycle.
Feliciano’s 30-second ad will begin running on WCAX Wednesday morning. Shot and produced by a high school film student from Burlington Technical Center, the ad features a single-shot of Feliciano lamenting the “3,000 fewer jobs, out-of-control spending, increasing poverty, low wages, high taxes and government-controlled health care” he says have all befallen the state during the tenure of Gov. Peter Shumlin.
“When you vote, think new, think better,” Feliciano implores viewers.
Feliciano, who has bankrolled most of his low-budget campaign, will spend about $9,000 to air the ad on WCAX between now and Election Day. He’ll spend an additional, undetermined sum to air the spot on WPTZ, according to a person familiar with the buy.
Feliciano was polling at 6 percent in a Castleton poll commissioned by WCAX earlier this month. He’s pitched himself as an alternative to conservative voters unimpressed by GOP candidate Scott Milne, whose refusal to condemn the concept of single-payer health care has riled some in the Republican Party.
