Vermont State Police Investigating Officer-Involved Shooting In Bristol

Vermont State Police released new details Friday regarding Thursday's officer-involved shooting in the town of Bristol.

Bristol Police officers went to a home on Pine Street at around 8:30 p.m. Thursday following a report of a man experiencing a mental health crisis.

After arriving on the scene, they heard a gunshot, and troopers from the Vermont State Police were called to assist.

The officers were approached by a woman with a gun. She was shot and injured by a trooper after they say she ignored orders to drop the weapon.

Officers then found a man outside the residence with a head injury from an apparent gun shot.

Updated 4 p.m. Sept. 5, 2014:

Vermont State Police have released new details about the Bristol shooting.

In a release, State Police identified the injured man as 56-year-old Norman Michaud. Police say Michaud called police threatening suicide with a gun.

When officers arrived on the scene, another adult man arrived and told police that his mother, Tina LaBossiere of Crown Point, New York was also at the house. The man was speaking to his mother on the phone and told officers that she had a weapon.

The release said officers saw LaBossiere "waving a large handgun" and told her to drop the weapon as her son also asked her to do so. An officer shot her once when she didn't comply.

As officers continued toward the house, they came across a third man, uninjured, who complied with commands. Finally, the troppers found Michaud lying on the ground with a head injury that appeared to be a gunshot wound.

Both Michaud and LaBossiere were taken to Fletcher Allen Health Care.

The incident is still under investigation and the Addison County State’s Attorney and the Attorney General’s office are assisting in the investigation.

Per policy, the trooper involved in on administrative leave. The trooper will be identified later on Friday.
