Resiliency After Irene

VPR
Sue Minter hopes we can make Vermont's roads more resilient in the future.

Tropical Storm Irene is phrase we have spoken on this program an uncountable number of times in the three years since devastating floods tore apart a third of the state on this date in 2011. Since then, the name “Irene” has become shorthand for huge issues like disaster recovery, flood plain management, climate change and personal loss.

As we mark the third anniversary of the storm, we invited Sue Minter to join us again. Her day job is deputy transportation secretary, but in the aftermath of the storm she was named chief recovery officer, and was consistent voice of information and planning as communities reacted and then recovered from Irene. She spoke with us about Vermont's efforts to increase resiliency in preparation for future events.

Patti is an integral part of VPR's news effort and part of the team that created Vermont Edition. As executive producer, Patti supervises the team that puts Vermont Edition on the air every day, working with producers to select and research show ideas, select guests and develop the sound and tone of the program.
Jane Lindholm is the host, executive producer and creator of But Why: A Podcast For Curious Kids. In addition to her work on our international kids show, she produces special projects for Vermont Public. Until March 2021, she was host and editor of the award-winning Vermont Public program Vermont Edition.
