Activists from Glover's Bread and Puppet Theater spread out in communities around Vermont on Wednesday to hold vigils in protest of the recent Israeli attacks on Gaza. And the troupe is planning similar action on the statehouse lawn on Friday.
Small vigils of three or four puppeteers were held in Barre, Barton, Greensboro, Hardwick, Lyndonville, Montpelier, Newport and St. Johnsbury. These groups represented a Palestinian mother, with her arms raised over the death of her child, ringing a mourning bell. Other puppeteers held signs saying “Gaza"and banners with questions such as “Why?” and “Whose Money?”
The troupe plans to stage a similar protest on the statehouse lawn on Friday, from noon until 1 p.m.
"The protest will bring attention to the growing humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the U.S. government’s support of the Gaza attacks," a Bread and Puppet announcement stated.
Bread and Puppet has also changed its scheduled Friday night performance in Glover. The group now plans to perform a show called Fire, Emergency Performance for Gaza. The troupe is currently seeking additional locations throughout the state to perform this new show.
