Police: One Dead After Police Shooting

Vermont State Police say one person is dead following a shooting involving a Brattleboro police officer. The incident happened during the search of hotel room that was part of a drug investigation.

The shooting happened around 5:30 a.m. Friday at the America's Best Inn in Brattleboro.

Police have not released the name of the person who died or the officer who fired the shot or shots.

Police say the officer discharged his weapon, striking a male occupant during the initial entry into the room. Police did not say why the officer fired his weapon.

The male subject was pronounced dead at the scene by medical personnel.

An autopsy will be performed to determine the exact cause and manner of death.
