Healing Through Birdwatching

Robert C. Vallieres had always wanted to be a career soldier. But a friendly fire accident in Kuwait during the Persian Gulf War left him seriously injured and unable to return to military service.

Like many veterans, Robert tried clinics, pain killers and conventional therapy to adjust to civilian life. But it was the quiet activity of bird watching that finally allowed him to find his new normal.

Robert has recently written a book about his experience called Wounded Warriors: A Soldier’s Story of Healing Through Birds.

He recently spoke with Vermont Edition about his book.

Ric was a producer for Vermont Edition and host of the VPR Cafe.
Sage Van Wing was a Vermont Edition producer.
