Senator Patrick Leahy announced on the Senate floor that he is recommending Justice Geoffrey Crawford of the Vermont Supreme Court to serve as a judge in the U.S. District Court of Vermont.
Crawford, a Harvard Law School graduate, was named to the Vermont Supreme Court last September.
Leahy said Monday he was confident in his recommendation after extensive interviews with Crawford and others. President Barack Obama must now officially appoint Crawford before he can be confirmed by the Senate.
Crawford, if confirmed, will replace Judge William Sessions, who announced in January that he is taking “senior status” from the federal court.
