VPT Responds to Alleged Open Meetings Violation

Vermont Public Television says it is looking into a complaint filed against the station with the Corporation for Public Broadcasting.

According to VPT, an anonymous complaint raised concerns about the board of directors' compliance with open meeting rules.

Vermont Public Television’s board held a special meeting Wednesday to discuss the matter.

“The commitment of the board is that we will, in fact, investigate. If there is corrective action necessary we will certainly implement that immediately. If in fact there have been any infractions, they won’t occur in the future,” said board member Tom Pelletier after the meeting. Pelletier heads a committee that will look into the complaint.

The Corporation for Public Broadcasting Inspector General’s office confirmed receiving a complaint about VPT, but declined further comment.

The CPB is responsible for federal funds allocated to public television and radio stations.

VPT relies on the Corporation for Public Broadcasting Federal for nearly 16 percent of its annual operating budget.
