Ten days after Townshend resident Helen Holmes went missing, police don’t have any leads.
Police began the search for Holmes at 2 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 6 when she missed an appointment and they were asked to check on her. The last time she was seen was at 9:00 that morning at her home. In more than a week of searching, police haven’t turned up any new leads.
Customs and Border Protection conducted a helicopter search of the Jamaica and Townshend areas on Saturday, but haven’t been able to find Holmes or her red Subaru Forester.
State Police spokeswoman Stephanie Dasaro said the state police don’t own aircraft or employ any pilots, so they call on partner agencies such as Customs and Border Protection and the Vermont National Guard when aircraft are needed.
Police are keeping track of Holmes’ cell phone, social media, and financial accounts with the hope that new activity will tip them off. There hasn’t been any activity on the accounts since she went missing, Dasaro said.
“At this point, they don’t have any new leads that they’re able to report on and we don’t have any evidence of other activity,” Dasaro said.
Because state police have found no indications of foul play, Dasaro said one of the scenarios they are exploring is that Holmes left the state in her car.
“I have no doubt, because there is potential that she is in a vehicle driving, that [information about Holmes’ situation has] been shared with other states,” Dasaro said.
The Vermont Information Analysis Center is the state’s hub in situations such as this, when multiple state, local, and federal agencies have to coordinate. Dasaro said the center is handling information sharing in Holmes’ case, but she wasn’t certain which agencies outside of Vermont the center has notified.
