Vermont State Police troopers are investigating the death of a 5-year-old boy in an all-terrain vehicle crash in Shaftsbury.
Police say they were called to a home in Shaftsbury on Saturday and found that Benjamin Prouty was not breathing after the accident. The boy was taken to the hospital in Bennington, where he was pronounced dead.
State police say they sent detectives from the Bureau of Criminal Investigation to the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center to begin looking into the matter. They reported that the incident did not initially appear suspicious.
An autopsy was ordered.
