Proctor Considers Building Offers

The town of Proctor is considering a proposal from a local business to donate a pair of buildings on Main Street.

Town officials say one building would be a good location for the municipal offices and the other could provide laboratory space for the College of St. Joseph, which is looking to expand its science programs.

But if the two buildings were taken off the property tax rolls it would cost the town $28,192 in lost property taxes.

The company Omya is offering the two buildings at no cost.

Proctor Select Board member Lloyd Huges tells the Rutland Herald the larger building, built in 1924, would be a better location for the town offices than the existing location.
