About 7,500 independent home care workers are going to be receiving ballots from the Vermont Labor Relations Board so they will be able to vote on whether to be represented by a union.
The American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees says the ballots are being mailed out on Monday.
Earlier this year, the Vermont Legislature passed a law allowing home care workers to organize and negotiate a contract with the state.
The deadline for ballots to be returned is Sept. 27. Votes will be counted on Oct. 2 and 3.
AFSCME is the only union seeking to represent the workers.
