Officer Pleads Not Guilty To DUI Charge

A Burlington deputy police chief who is accused of driving while intoxicated when he was off-duty has pleaded not guilty.

Andi Higbee is on paid leave from the Burlington Police Department and remains free pending trial.

The Burlington Free Press reports Vermont Superior Court Judge Martin Maley ordered Higbee not to drive and not to consume any alcohol. He also mandated Higbee to submit to breath tests if asked by police.

Higbee, of Colchester, was arrested on July 21 in Sheldon. His attorney said an alcohol breath test showed Higbee was under the legal limit for driving; a second test done a few minutes later showed he was slightly over the legal limit.
