A former nursing home worker is scheduled to go to trial next month in the death of a woman who officials say went into a coma and died of brain damage after being injected with insulin.
Jodi LaClaire has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder in the death of 83-year-old Nita Lowery, who was found unconscious in her room at the Thompson House Nursing Home in Brattleboro in March 2009.
Vermont officials allege LaClaire injected the non-diabetic woman with insulin. A doctor who treated Lowery said she had the most severe case of hypoglycemia she had ever seen.
Prosecutors also allege that LaClaire accessed Lowery's credit card and used it after her death.
The Brattleboro Reformer reports jury section is scheduled to start Sept. 9.
