Teen Drowns In Barre River

Police say one person has drowned while swimming in a river in Barre.

Emergency crews say a group of teenagers was swimming in the Stevens Branch River on Tuesday when one got caught in the current while trying to swim across the river and was swept over Spaulding Falls.

Officials say another teen jumped in to try to help him and was swept over as well. The two swimmers were pulled from the water. WCAX-TV reports that police confirmed that one male died. The condition of the other swimmer had not been released.
