Soldier With Vermont Ties Killed In Afghanistan

A soldier with ties to Vermont was killed in Afghanistan over the weekend. Major Jaimie Leonard and a second soldier died from their injuries sustained from small arms fire.

The 39-year-old intelligence officer from Warrick, N.Y, has family in Vermont. The West Point grad had also served tours of duty in Bosnia and Iraq.

The highly decorated soldier's awards include two Bronze Stars and two Meritorious Service Medals.

Leonard had been serving in Afghanistan since January.
