St. Johnsbury Players Auditions
St Johnsbury Players would like to announce auditions for their Spring show, “Proof” by David Auburn, directed by Ursula Malabre-Speicher and produced by Erika Thompson. Auditions will be on March 8 and 9th starting at 6:30 pm, at the United Community Church, UCC (1325 Main Street, St. Johnsbury).
The show will be performed April 23-26.
“Proof" explores the life of Catherine, a young woman who has inherited her father's mathematical genius and mental illness. The story begins with Catherine's father, Robert, who has recently died, and Catherine's struggle with the fear of inheriting his mental instability. As she navigates her grief, she encounters Hal, a former student of Robert's, who discovers a groundbreaking proof in his notebooks. The play delves into themes of genius, madness, and the complexities of familial relationships, as Catherine grapples with her own potential and the weight of her father's legacy. The narrative alternates between present-day and flashbacks, revealing the intertwined lives of Catherine, Hal, and her sister, Claire. Ultimately, the play raises profound questions about the nature of genius and the consequences of mental illness.
Auditions will consist of cold reads from the script. Strong roles are available for two men and two women. The director will be flexible with age ranges.
Rehearsals will take place on Sunday, Monday, and Wednesday evenings.
