Northfield Cabin Fever Block Party & Lantern Parade
Northfield Cabin Fever Block Party & Lantern Parade
The "Cabin Fever Block Party" is a chance to get out of your home and take part in a free community celebration of the coming end of winter. The event start with a free lunch in the completely ADA accessible Plumley Armory, and then 2 "workshop sessions" with activities for people who want to stay inside, and people who want to explore the outdoors. They include: a Sing-Along with Zach Nugent and the Don & Nancy Rhodes chorus, snowshoeing and tracking with experts from the VT Fish & Game department at the Shaw Center in Northfield, learn to play cribbage (in each session!), a yoga class (in each session!), a floral design class, a birding walk with lifelong birder Carlos Pinkham, and a crafting workshop. Sabine field is available for those who want to walk or roll on a flat surface, too. At 3:00 there will be a community contra dance for all ages, with calling by Mary Wesley and live music by Frosty Frog. At 5:00, there will be cocoa and cookies by firepits outside, and we'll be gathering people for the Lantern Parade around Sabine Field at 5:30, with music by Brass Balagan. Lanterns have been made at several free workshops during February, from paper, bamboo sticks and LED lights. This event is made possible by a winter place-making grant from AARP Vermont, with additional help from Kennedy's Flowers in Northfield, Norwich University and Sodexo catering! The event has been organized by the Northfield "Accessibility, Walkability and Pedestrian Safety Task Force, an all-volunteer civic organization whose goal is to make it possible for everyone in the community to be independent and mobile, and to make all events universally accessible.
