Johnny Cash! The Man, His World, His Music
Next Stage Arts presents an intimate cinéma vérité portrait of one of music’s greatest icons, Johnny Cash! The Man, His World, His Music, on Friday, February 27 at 7:00 PM. Doors open at 6:15 PM at Next Stage Arts, 15 Kimball Hill, Putney, VT. Tickets are $10 general admission and available at nextstagearts.org.
Produced in 1968, this film captures Johnny Cash both onstage and behind the scenes. Following Cash on the road and in concert with the Carter Family, the Statler Brothers, and Carl Perkins, the film also includes rare footage of Cash recording with Bob Dylan at Columbia Studios.
Audiences will also see Cash at home with June Carter, visit his parents and children in California, and return to his childhood town in Arkansas. The documentary features moving sequences at the Rosebud Reservation in South Dakota and the site of the Wounded Knee Massacre, offering a deep look into Cash’s life, family, and social conscience.
Local filmmaker Alan Dater, who served as the film’s sound recordist, will be present to introduce the screening and participate in a post-film discussion. A short video interview with director Bob Elfstrom will also precede the screening, offering insight into the making of this extraordinary documentary.
