VPR will air WNYC and The Public Theater's production of Richard II from July 13 to 16.

From open air to on the air, Free Shakespeare in the Park comes to VPR this week. WNYC and The Public Theater present William Shakespeare's Richard II in a serialized radio broadcast over four nights. Listen Monday through Thursday at 8 p.m. as the last of the divinely anointed monarchs descends and loses it all. One of Shakespeare’s only dramas entirely in verse, Richard II is an epic, but intimate play.  When King Richard banishes his cousin Henry Bolingbroke and deprives him of his inheritance, he unwittingly creates an enemy who ultimately forces him from the throne.  Directed by Saheem Ali, Richard II is a riveting tale of lost sovereignty, political intrigue, and psychological complexity that unfolds in four parts.

Listen from July 13 - 16 at 8 p.m.
