Sundays Are Changing On VPR

On July 10th, VPR will begin broadcasting new programs at 11 a.m. and noon on Sunday. Reveal at 11 a.m. and, beginning August 7th, Next at noon. These two programs will replace the rebroadcast of A Prairie Home Companion.

Reveal, from the Center For Investigative Reporting, is a Peabody Award winning program that breaks new ground in investigative journalism. Next, from the New England News Collaborative, gathers the most relevant stories from Vermont, Maine, Connecticut, Massachusetts, New Hampshire and Rhode Island.

Until Next begins on August 7th, VPR will present four weeks of special programming at noon: a Live From The Fort music special on July 10th followed by three weeks of one hour documentaries.

Garrison Keillor is retiring as host of A Prairie Home Companion and his last show will be broadcast July 2nd and 3rd. VPR decided to use this as an opportunity to make the program change.

“When we ask listeners what they would like more of on VPR, investigative reporting and regional news are among their priorities,” said VPR’s Vice President for Programming, John Van Hoesen. “This is an excellent opportunity to introduce fresh new programming that listeners are asking for.”

VPR will continue to broadcast A Prairie Home Companion Saturday evenings at 6. Listeners will hear rebroadcasts of the program through the summer. The new host, Chris Thile, will take over as host on October 15th.

Franny was VPR's Director of Programming & Production.
