GMO Labels: What Has Vermont Wrought?

Vermont's GMO labeling law goes into effect on July 1.

It's been almost two years since Governor Peter Shumlin signed Vermont's GMO Bill into law. And we're now just a few months away from it going into effect.

With the law close at hand, several large food manufacturers have decided to add GMO labels to their products or have changed to GMO-free ingredients.

We talk with Bloomberg News Food Policy Reporter Alan Bjerga and Jack Russo, a senior analyst for Edward Jones, about what effect Vermont's law is having nationally. And why farmers are worried about how this might impact their practices.

Also on the program, longtime Chittenden County senator Diane Snelling is stepping down to take the helm at the Natural Resources Board. We talk to Seven Days reporter Terri Hallenbeck about the ripple effects of this change on Vermont politics.

Broadcast live on Wed., March 30, 2016, at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.
