A water contamination problem detected in private wells in North Bennington in February is also affecting municipal water in Pownal. Those discoveries come months after Hoosick Falls, New York, began dealing with the suspected carcinogen there. The source is manufacturing processes in plants operated by Saint-Gobain and Honeywell, but the responses from local, state and federal officials have varied since the problem first emerged. We talk with VPR reporter Howard Weiss-Tisman and with investigative reporter Brendan Lyons of the Albany Times-Union about the scope of the PFOA contamination, and how its being handled.
