Late Wednesday afternoon, the state Senate voted to legalize marijuana in Vermont with 16 senators in favor and 13 against. That's not too far off from a public opinion about legalizing pot, according to a VPR Poll that show 55 percent of Vermonters supporting legalization.
As the measure goes over to the Vermont House for consideration, we debate the pros and cons of legalization with Matt Simon of the Marijuana Policy Project, which has been advocating for the bill, and Dr. Jill Rinehart, a Burlington pediatrician who opposes it along with several professional organizations of physicians.
Also in the program, get ready to vote on Tuesday. Vermonters will be choosing presidential primary ballots, in addition to taking up all matter of local issues on Town Meeting Day. Secretary of State Jim Condos explains why the state gets involved with helping parties choose their candidates, and how the presidential primary differs from the General Election primary that Vermont will hold in August.
