Burlington police chief Brandon del Pozo officially took his post less than five months ago, on September 1, 2015. But if the NYPD transplant thought Vermont was going to be an easy ride, the next four months proved otherwise. Since September, the department has had to deal with officer-involved shootings, an alleged sexual assault at the criminal courthouse, and KKK flyers targeting two black residents. The handling of these incidents has given Vermont largest city a vantage point on the police chief's approach to transparency, community relations and public safety. Burlington Police Chief Brandon Del Pozo is our guest to discuss these issues and take your calls.
Also in the program, Vermont Freedom to Marry says it's ready to close down operations. The advocacy group formed in the 1990s to make the legal and social case for same-sex marriage. We talk to lawyer Susan Murray about the long road through civil unions, state marriage laws and national court cases that has led to the group to declare its work is done.
