South Burlington's Future

South Burlington seems to be everywhere and yet nowhere. It's the third largest city or town in the state, home to Burlington International Airport and the heavily commercialized stretch of Shelburne Road. But it has no downtown of its own.

Now the city is considering a major project to construct a City Center that would include retail shops, housing and public buildings like a City Hall, library and recreation center.

We look at those plans and at what might happen to the neighborhood around the airport with City Council Chair Pat Nowak and Deputy City Manager Tom Hubbard. And we hear about a group looking to reduce the city's energy consumption from Karen Mckenny, a member of the South Burlington Energy Commission.

Also on the program, it's been two years since the oil tanker train explosion in Lac-Megantic, Quebec. We get an update on how the town is rebounding from CBC Reporter Thomas Daigle.

Plus, the Middlebury Language Schools turn 100 this year, so we visit a German for Singers class.

Broadcast live on Tuesday, July 14, 2015 at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.
