From Ronnie Gilbert To The House Of The Rising Sun

Traveling to Jamaica, comparing Jonathan Edwards old and new, honoring fabled Irish harper Turlough O'Carolan, and wishing a fond farewell to Ronnie Gilbert, an original member of the Weavers, and one of the major players in the American folk music revival, who died last week at the age of 88.

This program will air on Sunday June 14th from 7 - 10 p.m.

This week's calendar announcements:

There will be a Father's day BBQ and Music festival called "Solstice" at Moogs Place in Morrisville on June 21st, starting at noon and running till midnight. Proceeds will benefit United Way and Meals on Wheels of Lamoille County. All ages are welcome. Musical acts include Mark LeGrand’s Honky Tonk Band, Seth Yacavone, and many more!  

The 9th annual Carolan Festival, celebrating the musical legacy of Irish harper Turlough O’Carolan, will be held on Saturday June 20th beginning at 9:30 a.m and continuing until 9 p.m. at the Mallery Farm in Worcester.

Vermont guitar master Scott Ainslie will perform as part of the Readsboro Concert Series in the Bullock Building on Main St. in Readsboro on Friday June 19th beginning at 8 p.m., and on Saturday June 20th  at 8 p.m. in Great Barrington, MA as part of the The Troubador Series at The Guthrie Center.

 Next Stage Arts Project and Twilight Music present Nashville-based, bluegrass and Americana quartet The Barefoot Movement on Saturday, June 20at 7:30 pm at Hooker-Dunham Theater & Gallery, 139 Main Street in downtown Brattleboro

The Westford Summer Concert Series presents the Swing Peepers  on the Westford green on Friday June 19th at 6:30 p.m.

The Sky Blue Boys will perform on June 19th at Bread and Butter Farm in Shelburne, VT beginning at 5 p.m. and on Saturday June 20th at American Flatbread in Waitsfield at 6 p.m. for a benefit for the North Branch Nature Center’s “Kids Need Nature” program.   
 

Red Hot Juba will be performing at the Quechee Hot Air Balloon Festival on Jun 19th at 3 p.m. and at Breakwaters in Burlington on Saturday June 20th at 7 p.m.

The Beerworth Sisters will be playing at the Hotel Vermont in Burlington on Friday June 19th at 9 p.m.

The Richard Thompson electric trio will be performing at the  Flynn Center on Sunday June 21st at 7 p.m.

 

Robert Resnik has been the host of All the Traditions, Vermont Public's folk and world music show, since 1996. He is the winner of the 2019 Herb Lockwood Prize In the Arts, an honor that rewards the pinnacle of arts leadership in Vermont and is the recipient of the 2022 Margaret L Kannenstine Award for Arts Advocacy from the Vermont Council of the Arts.
