Islam In Vermont

Annie Russell
/
VPR
More than 3,500 Vermonters practice Islam.

World events, like the shootings at the offices of French satire magazine Charlie Hebdo and the bombing at the 2013 Boston Marathon, have had a negative effect on the opinions held about followers of Islam. But in Vermont, almost 4,000 Muslims have easily integrated into the community.

Imam Islam Hassan of the Islamic Society of Vermont discusses the growth and outlook of the Muslim community in the state.

Also on the program, the Legislature passed the GMO labeling law last year, meaning many Vermont companies will have to determine how it affects their products. Paul Seyler, owner of Vermont Cookie Love in North Ferrisburgh, discusses how they've been dealing with the changes in the law.

Broadcast live on Tuesday, Jan 20, at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.
