Vermont Legislature
Follow VPR's statehouse coverage, featuring Pete Hirschfeld and Bob Kinzel in our Statehouse Bureau in Montpelier.

Vermont Statehouse in Montpelier.

One-hundred-eighty lawmakers are arriving at the Statehouse in Montpelier on Wednesday to start the new legislative session. Among them them are new faces and old, and a mix of priorities - from education property taxes to where we go now with changes to the health care system. And the backdrop to all of this? A somewhat bizarre and still unresolved election season.

Vermont Edition is from the Statehouse on Wednesday, as legislators, their families, state leaders and lobbyists descend on Montpelier for opening day of the Legislature. We'll look at the major shifts in politics wrought by a November election that didn't yield a winner in the governor's race, but did see more Republicans elected to the House and Senate. And we'll look at the impact of the single-payer bombshell Governor Peter Shumlin dropped late last month.

We'll get analysis from VPR's Bob Kinzel, and then Speaker of the House Shap Smith is our guest to take your calls.  What do you want lawmakers to tackle in the coming session? Post below, or email vermontedition@vpr.net.

Broadcast live on Wed., Jan. 7, at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.
