Here are a few statistics behind which events were recommended by VPR listeners in the past year and what we can look forward to in 2015.
Since its inception nearly three years ago, over 700 submissions have come in from Art Hounds wanting to share favorite arts events with other VPR listeners!
Last year, the most "Art Hound"-ed event for a second year in a row was The Cherry Street Artisans Craft Show - in which a Brattleboro family opens up its Victorian home to dozens of local artisans who display and sell their creations. That single event garnered seven submissions from enthusiastic Brattleboro-area art lovers.
The event that most Art Hounds wanted to share throughout the year was Kate Gridley's ongoing, larger-than-live, multi-media, oil portrait traveling exhibit of young adults called, Passing Through. It's still up at Brattleboro Museum of Art until January 5th in case you missed it or want to see it once more before it moves to Davis Gallery in Geneva, New York.
Our Art Hounds hail from several cities, towns, villages and gores representing every county in Vermont... except Essex County! This year, we would love to hear from folks in the arts community in Maidstone, Victory and all of Essex County's other towns.
The most Art Hounds hail from Chittenden County with Windham County close on its tail, followed by Washington and Windsor Counties.
By far this past year, the most submissions from our Art Hounds were for the performing arts: plays, staged performances, dances and concerts. Our Art Hounds also strongly encouraged you to check out the visual arts, whether they be painted, sculpted from wood, clay and glass or photographed.
What's the busiest month for arts events in the listening area? It's May while the quietest months are January and February.
