Whyfor Vermont County Government?

Ric Cengeri
/
VPR
Vermont's county government system is weak compared to most other states.

Next month, Vermonters will go to the polls to vote for the governor, lieutenant governor, U.S. Representative, state representatives and senators and a host of other positions. And they’ll also decide on county positions, such as sheriff, assistant judge and high bailiff.

So what people elected to these positions actually do?

Chris Koliba, UVM Master of Public Administration Program and a professor in Community Development and Applied Economics, and Vermont historian Paul Gillies look at Vermont’s county government system, why it exists and how it developed.

Also on the program, we hear our next installment of Dorothy’s List, Vermont Edition’s series about the books that are nominated for the Dorothy Canfield Fisher children’s book award. This time, students from Grand Isle School discuss Tim Federle’s Better Nate Than Ever.

Broadcast live on Monday, October 6 at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.
