Lovers of classical music are celebrating two big milestones in Vermont: VPR’s own Walter Parker marks his 30th anniversary on the air this week. And the Vermont Symphony Orchestra is celebrating its eightieth season.
We look at how Vermont’s classical music scene has grown and deepened over the decades with Walter Parker and VSO Executive Director Alan Jordan.
Also on the program, during routine audits in 2012 at Gifford Medical Center and one other small Vermont hospital, a federal contractor ruled that Medicare had overpaid when it reimbursed the hospitals for their provider tax payments. The financial hit to Vermont’s small hospitals could be $400,000 to $500,000 a year each for three years. We talk about the situation with Gifford’s CEO and President Joe Woodin.
Plus, we hear from Douglas Brooks of Vergennes who is working to keep the ancient art of Japanese boat building alive.
Broadcast live on Tuesday, September 30 at noon; rebroadcast at 7 p.m.
