VPR Cafe: Persian New Year

Ryan Mercer /FREE PRESS
Rey Garofano will bring her Persian baked goods to the Farmers Market in Burlington this summer.

The Spring Equinox kicked off a thirteen day celebration of the Persian New Year. Melissa Pasanen, who writes for the Burlington Free Press Savorvore Section, talked with an Essex woman who is keeping her family's New Year traditions alive - including some Persian pastries flavored with herbs that represent growth and rebirth. You can learn more about the Nowruz New Years celebration in Melissa's story.

The VPR Cafe is produced in collaboration with The Burlington Free Press and is made possible on VPR by the Vermont Community Foundation Food and Farm Initiative.

Franny was VPR's Director of Programming & Production.
Ric was a producer for Vermont Edition and host of the VPR Cafe.
