Mon, Aug 5 Noon and 7 PM Last May, the Vermont Legislature passed Act 148. Noting that waste diversion rates have stagnated in the state over the last 10 years, the new law would ensure that a significant portion of the recyclables, leaf and yard waste and food waste would be diverted from landfills.
A new draft report evaluating Vermont’s current system and making recommendations to reach Act 148’s goals has just been released. Justin Johnson, Deputy Secretary of the Vermont Agency of Natural Resources, discusses the report. And John Malter, Administrator of the Mad River Resource Management Alliance explains the efforts his group has made to divert e-waste, textiles, crank case oil and other materials from the waste stream.
