
John Van Hoesen
Senior Vice President & Chief Content OfficerJohn Van Hoesen is the senior vice president and chief content officer at VPR. He oversees content on VPR News, VPR Classical and VPR.net. He has also served as news director and vice president for news at VPR.
Since 2001, VPR has been recognized for excellence in broadcast journalism with more than 100 awards from RTDNA, PRNDI and the AP, including six national Edward R. Murrow awards. John was the executive producer of "The Irene Effect," "States of Marriage," and “State of Mind” documentaries. He is also the executive producer of VPR's signature news magazine, Vermont Edition. John has been the coordinator of VPR's strategic planning and the coordinator of VPR's Community Forum.
He has served on the Steering Committee of public broadcasting's national Editorial Integrity project. He is a member of the Public Radio Programming Directors Association and the Radio Television Digital News Association. He is a past president of the Vermont Press Association, and he is a recipient of the Associated Press Distinguished Service Award.
His career in broadcast and print journalism has spanned more than three decades. He was the managing editor of the Pulitzer Prize-winning Rutland Herald, where he also worked as a reporter and a magazine editor. He was one of the founders and also pressman at the Windsor Chronicle weekly newspaper. He began his career at the Times-Reporter newspaper.
John grew up on a dairy farm and is a graduate of the University of Vermont.
