As the state drafts a plan to clean up Lake Champlain, one issue it must face is the millions of gallons of raw or under-treated sewage flowing from wastewater treatment plants into Vermont waters. The spills rarely trigger enforcement actions by the Agency of Natural Resources.  Over the course of the next ten years, more than half of all Vermont teachers are expected to retire. To help deal with this demographic change, Vermont’s teachers union will ask lawmakers to adopt several proposals to encourage more young people to enter the education workforce. The group implementing the new health insurance system in Vermont says 75 percent of small business employees in the state are enrolled in a Vermont Health Connect plan for next year.
