The CEO of General Electric was in Rutland yesterday, and Jeffery Immelt says a backlog of orders in their global aviation business means the company’s two manufacturing plants in Rutland should continue to grow and provide more jobs. Officials at the Vermont State Labor Relations Board are counting ballots for an election in which home care workers are voting whether to unionize under the umbrella of the American Federation of State, County and Municipal Employees. The chairman of the Texas Low-Level Radioactive Waste Disposal Compact Commission says the organization is going to honor a 20-year-old agreement that guarantees space for radioactive waste from Vermont in its Texas facility. And finally, a new Vermont Welcome Center on Route 279 in Bennington is scheduled to open on Oct. 11.
A graduate of NYU with a Master's Degree in journalism, Mitch has more than 20 years experience in radio news. He got his start as news director at NYU's college station, and moved on to a news director (and part-time DJ position) for commercial radio station WMVY on Martha's Vineyard. But public radio was where Mitch wanted to be and he eventually moved on to Boston where he worked for six years in a number of different capacities at member station WBUR...as a Senior Producer, Editor, and fill-in co-host of the nationally distributed Here and Now. Mitch has been a guest host of the national NPR sports program "Only A Game". He's also worked as an editor and producer for international news coverage with Monitor Radio in Boston.
