The state of Vermont is bracing for a federal government shut down. State officials are not anticipating huge problems if the shut down lasts only a few days. Governor Peter Shumlin has named an experienced government administrator to a newly vacant statehouse seat representing part of the Upper Valley. Kathy Hoyt, the former chief of staff for Howard Dean and Madeleine Kunin, will replace Margaret Cheney, who resigned from the legislature to serve on the Public Service Board.  VPR report traces of lead have been found in 11 artists mugs offered between 2002 and 2011. Vermont’s online health insurance exchange goes on line today.
