The Vermont Yankee nuclear plant's owner again is trying to limit the state's regulatory authority over the Vernon reactor — this time over a new diesel-fired backup generator the plant intends to install. Governor Peter Shumlin has signed a group of bills designed to crack down on prescription drug abuse and related crimes. A new navigation system for the helicopter service that links many of the state’s hospitals will make it safe for pilots to accept missions in bad weather. The first of three public informational meetings is being held in Waterbury this week, in advance of a $5 million bond vote to build a new municipal complex on land that currently belongs to the state.

Neal was a reporter and VPR's All Things Considered host from 2001 to 2014. He joined VPR in 1996, hosting VPR's jazz programming, including live performances from the VPR studios and the Discover Jazz Festival. Prior to VPR, Neal was a programmer and host for WNCS in Montpelier and WDEV in Waterbury. He holds a B.A. from Sarah Lawrence College.
