The ProFile: Meet 'All Things Considered' Host Alex Keefe

Get to know Alex Keefe, VPR's new All Things Considered host. You'll hear him weekday afternoons from 4-7 p.m.

My name... Alex Keefe

VPR employee since... November 10, 2014.

My job at VPR... local All Things Considered host and reporter. You'll hear me on the radio each weekday afternoon. My goal: Get you the information you need at the end of your day, help you make sense of the news and (hopefully) show you parts of Vermont you didn't know existed. Also: Ask a lot of questions.

Public radio listener since... high school. I realized then that I could drive around on >Saturday morning, drink my coffee and sneak a few illicit cigarettes while listening to Car Talk and Wait, Wait...Don't Tell Me! from WBEZ in Chicago. I quit smoking years ago, but got hooked on public radio.

The one word I always stumble over on air is... "president." I have no idea why, but enunciating that last "t" before getting to the proper noun that inevitably follows (Obama, Bush, Clinton, etc.) always trips me up.

The Newscast headline reporting the last year in my life would be... "Chicago political reporter, family trade brutal Windy City winters for...brutal Green Mountain winters."

On Sunday morning, you'll find me... on my road bike, in the warm months. When it's cold, I might be thumbing through a cookbook to find something for supper, playing Axis & Allies with friends or reading something about the American Revolution. Or, on my bike.

I've learned the most about radio from... my dad. He spent nearly 30 years as a news director at a Chicago commercial FM station. On Saturday mornings at the station, while he was cutting up his show for Sunday, he'd stick me in a booth with fake news copy and turn on the mike. I owe him my voice, my instincts, my curiosity.

I can't live without... strong coffee. Or my family. But if I had to choose...

I always smile when... I first see my wife's face after a long day at work.

I listen best when... I pretend that my mom is in the booth with me, as my sole audience member.

Michelle leads the team that oversees station branding, marketing, events, communications, and audience services. She joined VPR in 2002.
Alex was a reporter and host of VPR's local All Things Considered. He was also the co-host and co-creator of the VPR program Brave Little State.
