Congressman Peter Welch speaks for the Vermont Democrats watch party after winning his eighth term in the U.S. House of Representatives on Tuesday.

U.S. Congressman Peter Welch easily won his re-election bid Tuesday, with the Associated Press calling the race soon after the polls closed.

Welch was elected to an eighth term in the U.S. House, and said Congress needs to get back to Washington to address the financial fallout from the COVID-19 pandemic.

“You know, we’re doing a very good job, Gov. Scott’s leadership on the COVID side,” Welch said. “But Washington has to bring more aid back to our Vermont businesses, to individuals and to our state and local governments. And we’ve got to get through this, and we will.

Welch beat the Republican candidate Miriam Berry in Tuesday’s election.
