The University of Vermont could soon have a new president. The school announced that the "sole finalist" for the position, Dr. Suresh Garimella, will visit campus next week.
Garimella is currently executive vice president for research and partnerships at Purdue University, in Indiana.
David Daigle, chair of UVM's board of trustees, said the point of Garimella's visit is to introduce him to groups who haven't been part of the search process.
“So student leadership groups, staff council, president's commission on inclusive excellence, additional faculty, including leadership of the faculty senate — these are all groups that we want to meet this candidate before the board enters into any formal agreement with the candidate,” Daigle said.
Daigle said he expects Garimella will be well received by the UVM community.
“If we see anything different from that, then we could reflect that in our board deliberations about where to go next,” Daigle said.
Current UVM President Tom Sullivan had announced in August 2018 that he was going to step down, and Daigle said the board will vote on Garimella's appointment in February.
