Twenty-four hour water service has been reinstated in Dorset. The water system for the Dorset Fire District had been under restricted use due to a dangerously low spring-fed reservoir. While the district says the supply has been restored to safe levels, users are still under the boil water notice imposed a week ago.
"Water in the Dorset reservoir has returned to a safe level, therefore continuous water service has been reinstated," an announcement released Wednesday morning states. "Several leaks in the system were recently fix[ed]. These fixes, along with several nights of shutting off the water supply, have allowed the springs to restore the reservoir to safe levels."
The announcement states that water samples are being sent for testing, "and if these samples show no evidence of bacteria and other pathogens, then the boil order will be lifted." Officials do not expect the boil order to be lifted before the end of the week.
Meanwhile, Dorset water customers are notified to boil, for at least one minute, all water for drinking, ice making, brushing teeth, washing dishes, and food preparation.
