Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center, one of New England's largest teaching hospitals, has reported a budget deficit of $12 million.
Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center's budget of $1.6 billion faced significant losses because of implementations of new software systems, among other reasons.
Rick Adams is a spokesperson for Dartmouth-Hitchcock. He says this is not all that uncommon and happened to hospitals in Texas and California as well.
In the Upper Valley, though, Adams says Dartmouth-Hitchcock will have to scale back on some non-essentials, including, “hiring of open positions will be held only to essential positions. Capital expenditures that we haven't yet committed to fully will be delayed wherever that's possible."
Adams goes on to say hospital patients will be the last people to see the effects of the budget deficits.
