A new poll is showing Republican presidential nominee Donald Trump is not popular with voters 30 years old or younger. And the leader of the Vermont Federation of College Republicans says the group may not endorse their party's candidate for president.
The national poll shows that in this demographic, Donald Trump is less popular than Democratic presidential nominee Hillary Clinton, as well as the two third-party candidates, Jill Stein and Gary Johnston.
Jason Maulucci is a rising senior at the University of Vermont and the chairman of the Vermont Federation of College Republicans. The group also includes students from Middlebury College and Castleton State.
While they have not officially made a statement, Maulucci says as early as April they had discussed publicly denouncing Trump.
“I think it's very doubtful that the group would endorse Mr. Trump. I think most of us don't think Donald Trump is capable of being president,” he told VPR Friday. “We don't think he has the temperament to be president.”
Maulucci thinks many young Vermont Republicans are putting their focus on local races and considering votes for the third-party libertarian candidate Gary Johnson.
This comes after the Harvard Republican Club stated they will not be endorsing Trump for President. This is the first time in 128 years the self-described “oldest college Republican Club in America” will not be endorsing the Republican presidential nominee.
