The NY Yankees gained a split of their four game series with the Texas Rangers by winning for the second straight night in dramatic fashion at the Stadium, a 2-1 victory gained when Chase Headley slid home on a passed ball in the bottom of the ninth to give the Yankees a 2-1 win.
Didi Gregorius hit the game-winning homer in the bottom of the ninth Wednesday and last night hit a solo shot in the fifth to tie the score at one. Michael Pineda picked up the win, going six innings and striking out twelve in what was his best start for the Yankees this season.
The NY Mets squeaked by the Chicago Cubs 4-3, comuing back from a 3-0 deficit to beat the Cubs at Citi Field. If you like colossal home runs check out the bomb by Yoenis Cespedes that made it 3-1, a shot that made it into the third deck of Citi Field. The Mets took advantage of a throwing error by Javier Baez in the seventh to spark a three-run rally started by Mets rookie Brandon Nimmo (let the Finding Nimmo memes begin) and Jeurys Familia worked out of a jam in the ninth with runners on second and third and no one out, getting two strikeouts and a pop up to end it.
The Boston Red Sox were idle and open a critical nine-game homestand tonight against the L.A. Angels as they try to recover from a month of June in which they went 10-16 to drop five games behind the AL East-leading Baltimore Orioles. Steven Wright starts for the Sox tonight.

NHL's free agency period kicks off today and the Boston Bruins need to do something to shore up a ship that's full of holes before it even sets sail into next season. They did plug one hold by signing defenseman Torey Krug to a 4-year, $21 Million deal yesterday, but after the disastrous trade of Dougie Hamilton he's the only blue-liner left who can provide any real speed and offensive transition. Loui Ericksson will need to be replaced on right wing as he explores a big free agency payday elsewhere, and the Bruins also bought out the contract of defenseman Dennis Seidenberg, so they have some cap money to spend, but the pickings are slim and likely to get slimmer as the feeding frenzy ensues.
The upsets have started at Wimbledon. Last year's French Open women's champ and number two seed Gabrine Mugruruza was ousted yesterday by unseeded and 124th ranked Jana Cepelova of Slovakia 6-3, 6-2. Seven seeded mens' singles players also went down to defeat in round two, the highest-ranked being number eight seed Dominic Thiem.
The College World Series ended with a victory yesterday for Coastal Carolina College, with the tiny school beating Arizona in game three to lock down their first title in any sport. The Chanticleers, and bonus points if you knew that mascot name, took advantage of two errors by Arizona on the same play in the sixth inning, leading to four unearned runs in their 4-3 victory, becoming the first school ever to win a national title in their first World College Series appearance.
