Construction Worker Dead After Fall At UVM Worksite

A construction worker died Thursday morning after a fall at a University of Vermont Construction site, university officials confirmed.

UVM spokesman Jeff Wakefield said the incident occurred Thursday morning at the construction site for new student housing on the university's central campus, near the University of Vermont Medical Center.

Officials have not yet released the name of the worker or details of the incident.

Update 11:02 a.m. University of Vermont officials released the following statement Thursday morning (the text of this statement has been updated):

We regret to inform you about a tragic incident that happened early this morning at the First Year Residence Hall construction site.

Preliminary information indicates that an Engelberth Construction worker fell from a significant height at approximately 6:40 a.m., resulting in his death.

The incident is being investigated by appropriate authorities. Construction at the site has been halted until authorities complete their site investigation.
