Four people accused of murder in the beating death of a transgender man in Burlington were arrested late last night in San Diego, according to the Burlington Free Press.
Erik Averill, 21, Jordan Paul, 21, Myia Barber, 22, and Allison Gee, 25, were wanted for second degree murder in the assault on Amos Beede, 38, at a homeless camp near the Pine Street Barge Canal. Beede died of complications from blunt force trauma to his brain on Sunday.
San Diego authorities were following leads and tips that Burlington police provided when detectives found the fugitives. They will be held in California until Vermont authorities bring charges and seek extradition.
Prior to their arrest late Thursday evening, the fugitives last known location was Roswell, New Mexico, where Averill was arrested for assaulting Barber on May 31. Averill was released before local authorities knew he was wanted for murder.
Police say that the four suspects were traveling by car, and license plate reader technology helped track their movement.
